Private Forest Reserve of Cristal Global Mining Company

Paraíba’s North Coast is inserted in a region that represents an important geological and geographical transition point in Brazil.

The landscape of the Forest Reserve, property of Cristal Global mining company, that, for decades, has been extracting ilmenite, rutile, kyanite and zirconia on the coast between Camaratuba’s Bar and Guaju’s River Bar, on the border with Rio Grande do Norte, has won the adornment of giant pinwheels.

There are 60 turbines at the Wind Valley Eolic Park and 13 turbines at the Millennium Eolic Park, both from the Pacific Hydro company, installed within the mining company area to produce electric energy.

Over the 12 kilometers of deserted beaches of the private reserve the towers share space with dunes, phreatic lagoons and a sea, whose degradé goes from the turquoise blue to the emerald green.

A CURVA DO VENTO

Paraíba’s North Coast is inserted in a region that represents an important geological and geographical transition point in Brazil.

Place almost on the country’s elbow (extreme closest to Africa), it is on this point that great mobile dunes regions begin to form on the Northeast coast and follow in the direction of Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Piauí and Maranhão. The responsible is the curve that divides the wind’s orientation. Here, currents that blow North start to appear. For that reason, winds hit the coast on a different angle, stripping fixation vegetation from sand mounts (called fixed dunes), transforming them in mobile dunes that, as the name says, shift like a wave.
